In the Nation like US and Canada, it is celebrated as the annual holiday to commemorate the great achievements of the workers working in different fields on the first Monday of September month with a name of Labor or Labour Day. While we celebrate Workers Day we must know the short history about it.
Short History of Labor/Labour Day
International Labor Day is a big celebration or event of all over the world and it is celebrated on to remember May 4, 1886, the hairmarket incident in Chicago (hairmarket massacre). It was a big event of that year when the workers were on a general strike for their eight-hour workday and the police was doing their job to disperse the crowd to the common people. Suddenly, a bomb was thrown over the crowd by an unidentified person and the police started firing, in which four people were killed.
Here is the real statement about the program: “Trustworthy witnesses have said that all the guns have seen from the middle of the road, where the police were standing, and there was no one from the crowd. Apart from this, the initial newspaper report has not mentioned anything to be shot by ordinary citizens. At the scene a pole pillar was filled with bullets, all coming from the direction of the police.
Due to this Incident, in the meeting of the Paris (1889), It was decided every year the anniversary of the day i.e. May Day is celebrated, through a proposal by Raymond Levigne. In the year 1891, to commemorate the annual event, the second international Congress received official approval on May Day.
Why May Day/ Labour/Labor Day is celebrated?
International Labor Day or May Day is celebrated to end the struggle for promotion of an eight hour working day requirement. In the past the working conditions of the laborers were very painful and there was also a working day of 10 to 16 hours in the unsafe condition. During the 1860s, deaths, injuries and other horrific situations were very common for the workers, and people working during the whole working day were very unhappy until the eight hour workday was declared.
In many industries, there was a need to raise voice for the safety of people of the working group by decreasing the working hours of the working class people (men, women and children), increasing their death in industries. After a lot of efforts by laborers and socialists, eight hours were declared by the American Association of Workers in the form of legal time for workers in the National Convention of Shikogo in 1884.
During Heymarket massacre, a lot of people sacrificed their lives, which took place during the workers’ strike in Chicago. In order to promote the social and economic achievements of the working group people, the May Day is celebrated to recall the occurrence of Heymarket Massacre.
International Labor/Labour Day & How it is celebrated
In order to celebrate the achievements of the workers, international labor day is celebrated annually as an official holiday throughout the world. People celebrate May Day or Labor/Labour Day happily by managing big party and various programs. Labor day is celebrated as the Liberty Day celebration that decorate the banner of colors and flags.
In order to increase social awareness about Labor Day, various newspapers and messages are spread through TV channels and radio channels, while congratulating the workers’ day among the people. To celebrate this day are also held a variety of programs by the International Labor Organization. The theme of the Labor Day party festival is any cartoon character, western culture show, sports, TV show, movie, leisure activities, fun-filled fun activities etc. Other Workers’ Day activities include class-puzzle, word change puzzle, word search puzzle, code cracker puzzle, word giddy puzzle, word match game puzzle etc.
This festival holds a historical significance throughout the world and is celebrated all over the world by the Labor Union. To prevent violence, various types of exhibitions, speeches, revolt rallies and parades are organized by the Working Group under security management.

International Labor Organization (ILO) is an agency which is present in the United Nations, has been established to look at labor issues internationally. There are approximately 185 members in the entire 193 (UN) member state. It was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1969 for the promotion of peace among different classes, in order to see the issues of the workers, to develop the nation, to provide technical assistance to them.
He sees all the grievances of the people of the working class for violating international rules. It has a triangular operation structure i.e. “representing government, employer and laborer to generate free and open discussion among government organs and social associates, as an international labor office International Labor Organization Secretariat works.
International Workers ‘Conference, accepting or organizing the work, choosing the Chief Director, dealing with the Member State of the affairs of the Labor Party, taking responsibility for the proceedings of the International Workers’ Office, making plans about the appointment of the Commission or the decision to take decisions. It has the right to its operating institution. It has approximately 28 government representatives, 14 employer representatives and representatives of 14 workers.
To make common policies, to organize program planning and budget, it organizes an international labor meeting in Geneva on an annual basis in the month of June (the workers’ parliament has four representatives, Two government employees, one employer and one laborer Nominee of).
Last but not least, the government of all the nations should think about every welfare of the workers. The schemes which the government has made for the laborers should be properly brought to them so that the right of the laborer cannot be killed and in every corner of the world, workers should respect the workers on special occasions in the days of labor and other times from time to time. On the other hand, the laborers also want to do their job anywhere in mind and make their full contribution to the development of the country.
